Falls

Falls are typically not a result of a single factor, and definitely not because you are a certain age. Your balance is a complex negotiation of multiple system’s involving your eyes, ears, muscles and joints to put it simply.

Dysequilibrium can be a product of a change in lifestyle, losing skills and strength that at one time was a cakewalk to perform. It can be due to medications, pain, postural changes, general deconditioning or an injury that causes multi-sensory dysfunction as well as lack of coordination or confidence. The ability to maintain your balance is an intricate system that is carefully orchestrated by your brain, balance systems, and your experiences.

Balance Retraining

Balance Retraining involves a thorough history of the patient’s symptoms and past medical history, a musculoskeletal examination including strength, range of motion, flexibility, neuromuscular assessment including reflexes, sensation and proprioception, evaluation of eye and head movements, and various static and dynamic balance and vestibular tests.
