Dizzy/Vertigo?

According to the National Institute of Health, 90% of all causes of dizziness and imbalance can be found after a thorough and specialized evaluation. However, < 50% of patients complaining of dizziness in a primary care setting get a diagnosis. 70% of those same patients will instead get a prescription for Meclizine- NOT a cure for their symptoms.

Vertigo is a symptom of several different conditions.

  • Excess alcohol

  • Ear surgery
  • Head injury/Concussion
  • Prolonged bed rest
  • Medications
  • Meniere’s Disease
  • Uncontrolled Blood Sugars

Vestibular Rehabilitation has demonstrated consistently a reduced feeling of dizziness and imbalance. It is noted to decrease fall risks, improve mobility, increase safety, independence, and eliminate positional vertigo. Physical Therapists with specialized vestibular training will tailor an individualized program for each patient specific to the findings identified from the evaluation and diagnostics performed. Studies demonstrate a customized rehab program for patient’s results in an 85% resolution of symptoms. Through vestibular rehabilitation a patient can improve their function and reduce their risk of falling.
