Falling/Off Balance?

Losing your balance or falling frequently can change everything. At Balance Institute of Indiana, our patients all have one thing in common – they feel dizzy or unsteady. We continue to be a leading treatment center in Indianapolis for more than 25 years. Our therapists understand the impact balance and vestibular symptoms can have on you and your family. Let us partner with you to take control of your vestibular disorder needs.

Falls

Falls are typically not a result of a single factor, and definitely not because you are a certain age. Your balance is a complex negotiation of multiple system involving your eyes, ears, muscles and joints to put it simply.

Dysequilibrium can be a product of a change in lifestyle, losing skills and strength that at one time was a cake walk to perform. It can be due to medications, pain, postural changes, general deconditioning or an injury that causes multi-sensory dysfunction and lack of coordination. The ability to maintain your balance is an intricate system that is carefully orchestrated by both your brain and your extremities.

IF you have experienced any of the following you are AT RISK FOR A FALL:

  • Muscle weakness
  • Arthritis
  • Impaired Activities of Daily Living
  • History of Falls
  • Depression
  • Cognitive Impairment
  • Take more than 4 medications/80 years old/use an assistive device
  • Fear of Falling
  • Visual deficits
  • Neurologic/Cardiac deficits
  • Gait deficit
  • Balance deficit

Balance Retraining

A customized plan of care including a home exercise program will be developed upon the first visit.
